Benjamin L. Hooks, Civil Rights Leader, Dies (1925-2010)

Benjamin L. Hooks, an effective champion of minorities in an era of rising political conservatism, died Thursday, April 15th at his home in Memphis. Hooks, a Baptist minister and practicing attorney, led the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) from 1977-1992. He was 85.
